South dakota scratch ticket codes3/31/2024 They were flying from the Gulf Coast to the Pacific Ocean. We have had groups flying Lakota helicopters, those guys wrapped up their mission last fall. Some are state-authorized- which I support where the state picks it up- and others, like the groups that are down there right now were asked federally to come down and are federally paid for. Why did you see the need to help on this front?”īurgum: “Well, there’s been two types of Guard deployments during the time that I have been here. You even have some of our Guard troops going back and forth there. You have been down there many times as governor and have been outspoken on the border issue. When you’re the governor, you actually have to run the state of North Dakota.” But one thing I know about this job is this job is not a lawyer’s job. Because he was an outstanding legislator when he was in the state senate, and he was a terrific congressman, I mean, compared to- Stack him up against the 435 and we had a great congressman. And if he was going to keep running for Congress, I would have done that like the rest of my life. I’ve endorsed him for Congress, I’ve, you know, supported him financially when he ran for Congress. And I was- If Kelly had kept running for Congress, I would have kept supporting him. I talked to Kelly ahead of time and Kelly and I’ve had a great working relationship during his time as governor and congressman, we get to work together. Why did you support Miller over him? Do you think this was viewed as a slap in the face to him? Was there a conversation with him before this?īurgum: “Oh, there was a conversation. I know you’re really good friends with Armstrong. Gick: “ So, y our announcement kind of sparked many candidates announcing runs, including Kelly Armstrong and Lt. So, we want to continue driving forward with the things that are helping North Dakota thrive.” And then I’ll have an opportunity to present that budget next December before I leave office, which will then set up the next legislative session. We are going through our strategic planning right now with 74 different agencies. What are you looking ahead to in these last few months while you’re here?”īurgum: “We’ve got a very focused plan of everything that we want to accomplish during our time and one of those of course is the constitutional responsibility of the governor to put together a budget, so we’ll be building the budget. Gick: “You have limited days left in office. Although he has this number on his mind, he said he is still focused on the tasks at hand. The governor has just 283 days left in his term. 14, and he knows there will be a lot of opportunities in the private sector. He said what he knows is his term is going to end on Dec. He said he is not ruling out taking a position in the private sector. So, interesting time to be an operating leader.”īurgum said it has been a super-charged eight years in terms of what has gone on in the state. I mean, we- There was a global economic crisis that was going on. I mean, when you think about- we started with DAPL, we had a global pandemic, we had floods and fires, and we had, you know- The pandemic wasn’t just that aspect, I mean we had- oil production fell through the floor, we had, you know, prices collapsed. And it was in some ways it turned out to be a lot more than that. Is the private sector still the case? And why was this the right time to get out when you said this is the most rewarding job?”īurgum: “Well, when we decided to run, Kathryn and I, we always thought about it as two terms. You said it has had nothing to do with former President Trump and you may go back to the private sector. Gick: “So, you know, you’re not running for a third term as you said. He said not running was a difficult decision, but he is confident that the state is in a very good position. He has less than a year left before leaving office and he said he has a lot to accomplish in that time.īurgum said in his media conference in January that serving as governor for the past seven years has been a rewarding experience. It’s been over a month since Burgum announced he will not seek a third term in office. Political reporter Justin Gick spoke with the governor about his response to issues going on in the state in the final part of this exclusive interview with Burgum. (KFYR) - Governor Doug Burgum said he is making the most of his final few months in office.
